Deanich Lodge

A rustic lodge deep in the heart of the Reserve –
a complete escape from it all.

Available May to October, Deanich Lodge is one of the most remote lodges in Scotland, 19.5 miles from the village of Ardgay. If you are looking for a truly off grid experience, then look no further. Located in the heart of the Wilderness Reserve, 7 miles from Alladale lodge, the views and surrounding landscape are simply stunning.

The former historic hunting lodge has recently been converted to provide modest but comfortable lodgings suitable for multiple families and specialist retreats.  There is a landline for calls and 4G a short walk up the hill.  It’s the peaceful silence of Deanich that make this lodge so extraordinary.  From star gazing and trout fishing to cycling and hiking you will have the time to see the reserve’s wildlife including red deer and golden eagles.

“Deanich Lodge is not your normal Highland cottage. It is separated by miles of track road from the next settlement and offers what has become very rare in our day and age – unspoiled landscape and quietness. The Alladale Wilderness Reserve is very lucky to be in such good hands, by people who prioritise nature over ever further so called development.

Situated in a green valley with a crystal clear stream running through it and surrounded by majestic hills, you will encounter more deer than people. The spacious house has everything one requires and the fantastic team from the Alladale Lodge and Reserve will be there to help you with whatever you need. Fresh vegetables from the Reserve’s kitchen garden and venison – which otherwise is also very much enjoyed by the Reserve’s resident golden eagles – made for delicious meals while looking out of our dining room windows over wildflower meadows onto heather-covered mountain slopes.

While living very comfortably one is largely cut off from “civilisation” and it is surprising and enlightening how little one misses many must-haves of our normal, busy world once one is surrounded by nothing than nature on an imposing scale.

Our family with three little children (and two dogs) spent an unforgettable couple of weeks here and we have already booked our return next year.”
